02 / Core topics

The four programmes the chamber runs

Their own heading for these is Core Topics, and two of them are mandates rather than interests: a government energy secretariat and a vocational training system.

Ausbildung
Since 2017, the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) has been working together with German automotive companies to introduce and establish the German vocational training system in Korea. The aim of this initiative is to address the growing shortage of skilled workers in automotive workshops and to provide young people with practical, high-quality vocational training.
Energy & Environment
As the official secretariat of the Korean-German Energy Partnership in Korea and the implementing organization of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, KGCCI carries out a wide range of energy and environment related projects.
Women In koRea
Women In koRea (WIR, pronounced "we are" and also meaning "we" in German) is a mentorship program which consists of an international network of women professionals from all sectors of industry and country. First launched in 2018 with a primary focus on gender, generation, and geography, it aims to identify leadership potential of local female professionals.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Around 500 German companies in Korea are not only stable and engaged employers of about 100,000 employees in Korea, but have established scholarship programs, supported underprivileged groups and initiated charity programs.
03 / Ausbildung

The German dual system, in Korea

Running an apprenticeship that ends in a DIHK certificate is the most institutional thing a chamber abroad can do, and this one has been doing it with German carmakers since 2017.

The Ausbildung system in Korea is based on a dual 36-month program combining practical training at a company with theoretical education at colleges. Upon successful completion, trainees receive a certificate from The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI), a brand-specific technician certification, and a bachelor’s degree.

04 / Energy

Secretariat of the Korean-German Energy Partnership

An intergovernmental partnership needs an office to run it, and since 2021 that office has been this chamber.

In 2021, KGCCI was designated as the official secretariat of the Korean-German Energy Partnership (KGEP), and since then, we have successfully supported the economic and political cooperation between Korea and Germany to accelerate the energy transition.
